The feeling of driving into the abyss is overwhelming and not just with the excellent perspective into the darkness ahead on the road. The stippling on the roadway where other tread-marks have gone before show up so well in B&W. As do the trees lining the roadway. The trees are like a chorus singing us along the road.
So many stories are told within this one remarkable image.
This is such a familiar view. I am taken to being a child in the back of a car, looking between the two front seats into the road ahead, lit by its headlights. Unlike your other commenters - I am not frightened because the darkness of the outside is tempered by knowing I am inside - and warm and protected. Mystery is in the forest, not in the straightness of the way - where everything can be seen. Danger is in the possibility that a deer might run across the path of our car. Excitement is that we might see a fox. Add to that, I like being in the countryside rather than the town so I am filled with a sense of 'belonging' too - of being on my way home . . . escaping from being sociable or in a noisy place.
So . . . the quote is apposite . . . but the strength of the image takes me into quite different emotions. I find this a special picture.
Excellent.
SvarSlettI second excellent. You have captured the emotion of terrified in this one.
SvarSlettDitto ... excellent ...
